The officials of Sonitpur has informed that the state government has no plans to revive the process of issuing licenses to new liquor shops in Assam. The government further made it clear that no licenses for liquor shops are being issued as of now.
Sonitpur SP Bedang Bhushan Saikia and Deputy Commissioner Kulen Sharma urged people to remain careful and alert and not get duped by unscrupulous people who might promise a license and demand a lot of money.

The officials informed that the government is issuing licenses only for bar-cum-restaurant and not for alcohol shops.
According to reports, there are certain people who are involved in such activities. They are demanding a lot of money, particularly from the unemployed youth promising liquor shop licenses and cheating people.
The police and the excise departments are being proactive this time to not let the brokers' racket dupe people. The government has directed all SPs and DCs to take necessary steps to crack down on such brokers' rackets and spread the word among the people regarding the government's policies and make the masses aware.
