Former Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi on 4th June expressed suspicions regarding the publication of Second draft of NRC on 30th June. He stated that the meeting of Prateek Hajela with Rajnath Singh has promulgated such apprehensions. It was announced by the Chief Minister that Hajela confronted with the home minister to seek forces from the centre to the state as the aftermath of the NRC might see unrest in the state. He stated that it is only the inefficiency and incapability of the Sonowal government which has brought the state to such a plight. He firmly stated that the government should either correct the fissure or accept their failure.

He stated that people who exercised voting rights in 2014 and 2016 elections should not be abonded from the list. If those portion gets left out it would indicate that the MPs and MLAs which rose to power were elected by an illegal mob. When asked if there is any coherence of the Citizenship Amendment Bill and the NRC, he stated it's only a trickery of the government to hoodwink the people. Calling Himanta Biswa Sharma and Sonowal the live-in son-in-laws, he stated that they are mere puppets of the Centre. He expressed his vexation stating if the government of Meghalaya can take tangible steps, then why the government of Assam playing a lame game. He stated that government's mum attitude is a portrayal of their acceptance of the bill.

The former chief minister stated that he will submit a letter to the Prime Minister informing regarding the matter of the apprehensions engulfing the NRC publication to taken certain tangible step regarding the issue.

Does it will be a matter of concern to see if the Publication of NRC will lead to disturbances across the state or will it allay the fears of the people
