Kokrajhar, February 24, 2020:

The Bodoland Students Union (BSU) and Peoples Joint Action committee for Boroland movement on Monday demanded the immediate release of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) Chief Ranjan Daimary as he was one of the key signatories of the tripartite peace pact that was signed on January 27 between Bodo organizations, the Assam Government, and the Centre.

Addressing the press earlier today, the organizations jointly demanded the Centre and Assam State Government to arrange the release of the chairman NDFB, Ranjan Daimary, from jail for bringing "peace and tranquility" to the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) region.

They said that NDFB founder Daimary is one of the signatories in BTR accord so he should be let out from jail as a regular bail to ensure the implementation of the pact that seeks to bring peace to the strife-torn region in Assam.

"We appeal the Government of India to release core signatory, Ranjan Daimary founder president NDFB because he has signed an agreement with the Government of India", BSU General Secretary Bonjit Manjil Basumatary told Inside Northeast.

The student leader also opined that the NDFB has come back to the mainstream because they desire peace and his imprisonment will be regarded with "suspicion" by the people as he is one of the key signatories.

Meanwhile, the BSU has also alleged that Daimary has been sent back to jail because of mistakes of the All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU), another influential student body in the region. The BSU has further alleged that a "third party" is attempting to disrupt peace in the region ahead of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) and appealed the Govt of India and to organize "free and fair" election in the region.
