Finally, ending months of uncertainty, the complete draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC) was published at 10 am today. And of the 3.29 crore applicants, 2.89 crore individuals have been included, while approximately 40 lakh have been left out.
The complete draft was published simultaneously across all the 2,500 NRC Seva Kendras (NSKs) in the State, besides being made available online.
Meanwhile, addressing a press meet, Registrar General of India Sailesh and State Coordinator of NRC Prateek Hajela dispelled fears of anyone being declared a foreigner upon non-inclusion of his or her name as sufficient opportunity would be given to everyone of those not included to file claims and objections.
They stressed that it was only a draft not a final NRC.
The publication of the complete NRC draft follows publication of the first part draft on the intervening night of December 31 and January 1, which decided the citizenship status of 1.9 crore applicants.
