Assam Police arrested the State National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) Zubair Anam on Friday from Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati.
According to reports, the NSUI leader was arrested in relation to a case registered against him during the protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA on December 10-11. He has been accused of vandalizing the Kalakshetra in Punjabari in Guwahati.
Zubair was arrested from Rajiv Bhawan during a press conference that he had arranged at Rajiv Bhawan. It is to be mentioned here that the state of Assam witnessed widespread protests against the CAA after its passage in the Rajya Sabha.
Several cases of vandalism were reported from different areas of Assam. Public property in Guwahati was also damaged especially in the areas close to Kalakshetra and Assam Secretariat.
