BAKSA: A large herd of wild elephant entered Karkhela village near Chhepani in Assam's Baksa district on Monday night and demolished the residences of a few families and ransacked them, eating paddy and grains stored in them.
Moreover, a youth named Debanan Brahma (48) was seriously injured in a wild elephant charge in Chesapani village at 12:00 am today.
While Debanan was standing on the road, a single wild elephant suddenly attacked him from behind, gravely injuring him.
The injured Debanan was shifted to the Patkijuli hospital by locals.
A large herd of wild elephants is still roaming in the Chesapani area till the time of writing the report. This has left the people of the area in a state of terror, with the locals demanding government intervention.
Herds of wild elephants usually descend from the hills and are often involved in conflicts with human beings reaching different parts of Tamulpur subdivision along Indo-Bhutan Border for the past several months.
According to some estimates, more than 100 humans and several elephants have died due to the conflict this year alone.
