A name known to all, a loyal party man, a senior journalist, a social worker is in a pitiable condition. Bichitra Chowdhury, general secretary (Admin), Assam Pradesh Congress Committee(APCC) has been suffering from rectum cancer.
The senior Congress man is undergoing treatment in Apollo Hospitals, Chennai. Speaking to INSIDENE, Chowdhury said that Rs 12 lakh is needed for his treatment but he is facing acute financial crisis. Adding to his woes, no one from the APCC has lent him a helping hand.
Though APCC vice president Pradyut Bordoloi and former minister and present MLA Rockybul Hussain assured Chowdhury of providing financial aid, he is yet to receive any from his fellow party men. Chowdhury has even informed Assam Chief Minister’s Media Advisor Hrishikesh Goswami but assurance from him is yet to come regarding financial assistance from the state government.
It may be mentioned that Bichitra Chowdhury has served the Congress party for past three decades. Chowdhury joined the Congress as a primary member in 1988. In 2001, he was appointed the press secretary to the then chief minister Tarun Gogoi. In 2009, he was appointed as the general secretary of the APCC.
