GUWAHATI: The Assam Police have arrested at least 14 people from various parts of the state in a case related to sharing social media posts in support of Taliban taking over Afghanistan.
Speaking with InsideNE, Violet Baruah, Deputy Inspector General of Police, said,"The Police have taken a suo moto based on the findings of Assam Police's social media monitoring cell. An FIR has been lodged against them and all were picked by the police this morning."
"The accused are booked under IT Act, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 and various sections of CrPC hence the investigation to be done by Gazetted Officers," Baruah informed.

The arrested people are identified as - Maulana Fazul Karim (49) from Darrang, Abu Bakkar Sidique (55) and Saidul Hoque (29) from Kamrup (Rural), Jawed Mazumder from Cachar, Mozidul Islam (25) and Faruk Hussain Khan (32) from Barpeta, Saiyad Ahmed (27) and Arman Hussain (25) from Dhubri, Nadim Akhtar (23) from Hailakandi, Khandakar Nur Alom from South Salmara, Maulana Yaseen Khan (26) from Goalpara, Maulana Basiruddin Laskar (65) from Hojai and Mujib Uddin with Mortuza Hussain Khan from Karimganj.
Reportedly, among the arrested persons there are student from Tezpur Medical College, Maulanas and working teachers as well who work with some media group as reporter too.
Violet Baruah in a tweet also asserted of taking stern legal action against pro Taliban comments citing it as a threat to the national security.
