Mehtab Uddin Ahmed, Dhubri: The cattle smuggling nexus is again gearing up and trying to revive the illegal trade through the river taking advantage of darkness at night. In the latest bust by Assam police, 6 cattle were seized in the Poraporir Char riverine area of the Brahmaputra bordering Dhubri and Hatshingimari district.

Before the smugglers were able to cross the Indo-Bangladesh border and complete the assignment, Dhubri police personnel stepped forward to stop the menace of trans-border smuggling of cattle heads at the wee hours of the night.

Assam police based on secret information carried out a special operation in the riverine area of Brahmaputra in Poraporir Char in Dhubri district and were able to seize 6 cattle heads, which were smuggled through the river by high-speed machine boat.

However, the cattle smugglers managed to slow down the boat on a riverine side of tall grasses and jumped in the river. Police shot six rounds of bullets to stop the smugglers but they fled from the spot taking the advantage of the dark.

It is to be noted that the seized cattle were on their way for supply to Bangladesh through the Brahmaputra river at Dhubri. The cattle heads are not local and were reportedly brought from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, etc.
