DHUBRI: The Assam police during a joint operation today open fired a pack of dacoits in which one of the dacoit succumbed to injuries. The operation was led by SDPO Bilasipara, Birinchi Borah, along with OC Bilasipara, Sanjib Kumar Das, OC Chapar, Pranab Doley and Salkocha Out-post In-charge, Bipul Das.

Acting on a tip-off, Birinchi Borah, SDPO, set up a naka checking in few places of Bilasipara and Chapar area. It was informed that a pack of suspected dacoits were on a mission of dacoity riding on motorcycles and was travelling from Bongaigaon towards Bilasipara.

The dacoits somehow escaped the Chapar Naka and were trapped between Hakama point and Beltoli point, which was set by SDPO Bilasipara and Salkocha Out-post In-charge. Both the police team were ready to nab the pack of dacoits.

Meanwhile, the dacoits got trapped and started firing to the police personnels during which the police had to fire nine rounds of bullets in self-defense.

According to reports, while trying to escape, bullet hit one of the dacoit.

However, rest of the five dacoits managed to flee from the spot taking advantage of darkness.

Later, the police recovered one 9mm pistol, two live ammunition and two shells of blank bullets from the place where he fell down from motorcycle. The wounded dacoit was admitted to Bilasipara Civil Hospital and was later forwarded to Dhubri Civil Hospital with a shot at the back and he breath his last breath at Dhubri Civil Hospital.

The dreaded dacoit has been identified as Sahidul Ali Sahidul Islam, alias Boga Sahidul, alias Shuji, a resident of Roumari, Chapar.

Police stated that earlier he was arrested by Chapar and Bongaigaon police, many dacoity cases are registered against him in Chapar and Bongaigaon police station.

Dhubri police have further continue to investigate into the matter informed Abhijit Gurav, Superintendent of Police, Dhubri.
