Assam Police fails to arrest Doyang hydro project manager

Following objections from their Nagaland counterparts, Assam Police failed to apprehend Doyang Hydro Electric Project General Manager Priyabarta Das.

Earlier, a police team from Golaghat went to Nagaland’s Wokha district, where the project is located, to nab Das following allegations that sudden release of excess water from the dam without any early warning on Wednesday led to floods in many low-lying areas in Golaghat district.

BJP MLA Mrinal Saikia from Khumtai constituency in Golaghat district had on Friday filed an FIR against North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd-run project at Golaghat police station.

He held the project authorities entirely responsible for the devastation in Golaghat district caused by the release of excess waters from the dam without allegedly following any protocol like early warning.
