KOKRAJHAR: In continuance of the mission to rid the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) of firearms, Assam Police in the wee hours of recovered an assortment of arms and ammunition in Kokrajhar district of the state. The recovery was made in Belguri under Serfanguri police station.
"On the basis of a secret information regarding concealed arms/ammunitions a search operation was conducted in the jungle area of Belguri under Serfanguri police station in the leadership of Mukut Rabha, APS, ASP (HQ) assisted by Punamjeet Nath, APS, DSP(HQ) and SI Swmdan Hajowari, OC Serfanguri PS and staffs at 3 am today and recovered following arms and ammunitions kept concealed under the earth," an Assam Police official release said.
"An AK 56 rifle, an AK 56 magazine, an 7.65 mm factory-made pistol, an 7.65 mm magazine, and 29 rounds of live ammunition of AK was recovered," the official stated, adding that follow-up action is being taken.

Assam police made a similar bust last Tuesday and detained 6 people, allegedly with a huge quantity of arms and ammunition.
In its raid, the police recovered five AK 56 rifles with 8 magazines, one HK 33E Rifle, one UBGL with 11 shells, eight Chinese hand grenades and 300 AK 56 ammunition.
Assam Police took to Twitter to announce news of the bust. They wrote, "And the fight against anti-National elements gets stronger. Another stellar effort against militancy by Team BTAD. @KokrajharPolice recovered 5 AK 56 Rifles, 8 Magazines, 1 UBGL with 11 Shells, 1 HK Rifle, and a huge cache of ammunition under Sarainil OP of Gosaigaon PS."
