The Guwahati police in Assam allegedly wrote to Facebook, urging the tech-giants to take down controversial Assamese Facebook page: Assamese Online.

Guwahati Police Commissioner, Deepak Kumar told mediapersons that the Assam Police is attempting to close down the controversial page, Assamese Online, as it is responsible for 'hatemongering' and creating hatred in society. Moreover, the page has also been accused of spreading 'communal' messages. The Assam Police has even written to Facebook, in this regard.
The Facebook page goes with the Display Photo of the renowned writer, the late Mamoni Roisom Goswami.

Deepak Kumar told mediapersons that the Assam Police department has written to Facebook to take down the page and inform them about the persons operating the page. The Assam Police is in constant touch with the Nodal Officer of Facebook India.
The popular Facebook page, which has over 90,000 followers, has been part of discussions after allegedly circulating 'fake news'. The page has come under fire from locals, with a user commenting, "This page is run by communal haters, spreading fake news. It does not matter what name they have used of what dp they put up. It is just to fool the Assamese people. Actually they are run by some foreign funded terroist group, or similar kind to haters."
