GUWAHATI: In a month-long drive, Assam police has rescued as many as 42 children from the clutches of traffickers from the border areas of Assam and West Bengal.

The children aged between 7 to 9 years were trafficked from three villages of Chirang district in Assam. Currently, they are being brought to Assam via Alipurduar of West Bengal.

The operation was launched by Chirang police and was being carried out for the past one month. Police has also nabbed two traffickers.

The children will be brought to Assam Administrative Staff College where Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will have an interaction with them regarding their rehabilitation.

A meeting will be held at the Staff College in the presence of the Chief Minister to discuss the increasing cases of Child Trafficking. The meeting will also be attended by the high-ranking police officers including the DGP and officials of different departments.
