Assam Police Responsible if 'Wanted' Militants are Roaming in Public, Not Hagrama: Biswajit Daimary

Guwahati, September 15, 2019:

Rajya Sabha MP and Working President of the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) Biswajit Daimary on Sunday clarified a certain controversy revolving around his party's leader Hagrama Mohilary.

Addressing the press here today, the BPF leader said that Hagrama and Minister Chandan Brahma were recently questioned by certain sections of society for meeting NDFB pro-talks leader Dhiren Boro, in the presence of a 'wanted' militant.

Daimary countered that Dhiren Boro is now part of the peace talks, and "as per the ceasefire agreement, the NDFB (P) now a part of society and they have an agreement with the Government." Thus, Hagrama is not to be blamed for meeting a 'wanted' militant, Daunary said.

"If the person really is wanted, why is he not behind bars? The Assam Police should be asked this, not Hagrama or Chandan Brahma", Daimary said. "Hagrama is not responsible for who Dhiren Boro keeps company with. Dhiren Boro should be the one who should be questioned, not Hagrama", he said.

The BPF Working President further added that pro-talks militant leaders have now become a part of mainstream society. "Hagrama Mohilary or Chandan Brahma are not responsible, as these leaders can be seen everywhere, including the market...they are roaming around freely. Some have even been elected as public representatives..", he added.

During the press meet, Daimary also said that the BPF party is ready to offer the Rajya Sabha MP seat to the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) leader UG Brahma, if the parties contest the 2020 elections together. Daimary further added that the BPF leadership is in talks with several smaller parties, to bring them under the BPF umbrella ahead of the upcoming 2020 BTC elections.
