GUWAHATI: Akhil Gogoi, president of Raijor Dal, has officially announced former Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) general secretary Dharjya Konwar as a candidate from the Thowra LAC in the forthcoming Assam by-election.
Dharjya Konwar is most likely to face former two time Congress MLA Sushanta Borgohain, who had joined Bharatiya Janata Party recently, and Congress is again late in action and yet to declare its poll strategy.

Keeping an eye on the by-election, where Raijor Dal has started a rigorous campaign already, the BJP had also laid 26 foundation stones for 26 pucca road construction projects in just two days on September 12 and 13, on the other hand, Congress is still waiting for AICC general secretary's visit to the state to take a final call on the by-election in six constituencies.
According to sources, Akhil Gogoi's lawyer in his NIA case named Krishna Gogoi was also interested in going to polls on a grand-alliance ticket from Thowra, and only on that condition, Raijor Dal was ready to step back from there as well. But since the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Borah decided to dismantle the grand alliance Krishna Gogoi does not seem to be in the scenario anymore.
