GUWAHATI: The Election Commission of India has announced dates for Assam by-polls and as many as five constituencies to go to the polls on October 30.
The mentioned five constituencies are Gossaingaon, Bhabanipur, Tamulpur, Mariani and Thowra.
Though Majuli MLA and former Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was elected to Rajya Sabha yesterday unopposed and inducted into Modi's new union cabinet but he has yet to resign from the Assam legislative assembly. Hence date for Majuli was not announced.

"The Commission has reviewed the situations related to pandemic, flood, festivals, cold conditions in certain regions, feedback from concerned States/UT and taken into consideration all facts and circumstances and it has decided to hold bye-elections," the ECI stated.
ECI has set October 8 as the last date for nomination and candidates are allowed to withdraw their nomination by October 13.
Assam to go to by-polls on October 30 and counting will take place on November 2.
The Commission has decided to use EVMs and VVPATs in the bye-polls.
As many as 33 constituencies of various Indian states/UTs to go by-polls on this date.
