GUWAHATI: The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has declared its first set of candidates for the ensuing polls in Assam. Two Ministers -- Atul Bora and Keshab Mahanta -- have been named in the list.
Atul Bora will contest from Bokakhat
Keshab Mahanta will contest from Kaliabor
Renupama Rajkhuwa will contest from Teok
Bhabendra Nath Bharali will contest from Dergaon
Pradip Hazarika will contest from Amguri
Punakon Baruah will contest from Chabua
Jayanta Khaund will contest from Naoboicha
Prithiraj Rabha will contest from Tezpur
Atul Bora, the president of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), recently announced that it shall contest the ensuing Assembly elections in 26 Constituencies.
Making the announcement in the national capital moments earlier, Bora said, “Our party (AGP) will contest from Chabua, Amguri, Teok, Dergaon, Bokakhat, Kaliabor, Roha, Guwahati West, Chaygaon, Boko, Goalpara East, Goalpara West, Mankachar, Abhayapuri North, Abhayapuri South, Bangaigaon, Barpeta, Bhabanipur, Senga, Sarukhetri, Tezpur, Algapur, Karimganj South, Dalgaon, Naoboisa, and Jamunamukh.”
Notably, Bora did not name Barhampur, where AGP stalwart and 2-time chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta is the sitting MLA.
In the last elections, the AGP had contested in 27 Constituencies, winning 13 of those.
