Assam Polls: Congress behind formation of both AJP and 'Raijor Dal', claims Atul BoraRaijor Dal

Guwahati: With poll preparations already underway in Assam, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader Atul Bora has gone on the offensive against the new regional political parties -- Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP) and Raijor Dal.

While the former has been formed by the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP), the latter has come into being after an initiative by Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leaders who are waiting the release of Akhil Gogoi, the presumptive Chief Ministerial candidate.

During an address, the AGP President claimed that both the regional parties are actually under the influence of the Congress party and the All Assam United Democratic Front (AIUDF). These two parties will be forming a grand alliance to take on the BJP in the ensuing polls in the state. Bora claimed that both AJP and Raijor Dal have been birthed by the Grand Old Party in its attempt to unseat the BJP-AGP-BPF alliance from the power corridors of Dispur.

Even though these parties may look different, their parents are the same, Bora alleged.

He also took potshots at veteran Congress leader Tarun Gogoi who once questioned Badruddin Ajmal. Although Gogoi's one-liner has gained cult status, the policies of Ajmal and Gogoi are hardly different, Bora alleged.

In 2016, the election brought a change of power as the Indian National Congress (INC), which had formed the government under Tarun Gogoi since 2001, lost its majority to the BJP led by the current Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

This year, the contest is expected to be stiffer, as the Congress and AIUDF are looking to cement an alliance. Meanwhile, Congress President Ripun Bora has appealed to the new regional parties to join the 'Grand Alliance' to strengthen ranks ahead of the all-important polls.
