HOJAI: Denied a party ticket to contest the Assam assembly elections, senior Congress leader Ardhendu Kumar Dey today resigned from the party.

Dey handed over the resignation to the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Ripun Bora.

The former MLA claimed in his resignation letter that he was forced to leave the party due to the "dishonesty of some of the insiders in the Congress party".

“It is not possible for me to stay in the same party because of the unethical manner and dishonesty of some of the insiders in the Congress party,” Dey wrote in his letter.

Dey said, "As a result, I resign from the Congress party with immediate effect."

The Congress named Debabrata Saha as its nominee for the Hojai constituency in its second list of candidates released yesterday.

Dey was the president of the Congress committee of the Hojai district.

He is the second party leader from Hojai constituency after BJP’s sitting MLA Shiladitya Dev who put in his papers last evening after being denied a party ticket.

Meanwhile, supporters of former Nowgong Congress MLA Durlav Chamua also staged protest in Nagaon today after he was not considered for the party ticket this time. The Congress has nominated Santanu Sarma as its candidate from Nowgong.
