GUWAHATI: 76.52% voter turnout was recorded till 8:10 pm in the second phase of assembly elections across 39 constituencies in Assam, as per Election Commission's preliminary figures.

While the Nalbari district witnessed the highest voting percentage with a voter turnout of 86.69%, Cachar recorded the lowest voter turnout of 72.28%.

Although polling in all the 13 districts going to polls today began at 7 am and was expected to wrap up at 6 pm, voting is still underway in some places where the process was delayed due to inclement weather.

Rain and overcast conditions played a spoilsport during the day and could impact the overall voter turnout in this phase of polling.

According to meteorologists, Assam is likely to experience rainfall from March 30 to April 3 and thunder squalls with wind speed 50-60 kph, and hail may hit isolated places. The bad weather conditions are expected to adversely affect the voter turnout in the second phase polls.
