The BJP government in Assam is making geriatric care for its employees mandatory.
The state’s Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday told reporters that the government would implement the Assam Employees Parents Responsibility and Norms for Accountability and Monitoring Bill, 2017 or PRANAM Bill on October 2.
The Bill will make it mandatory for state government employees to take care of their aged and dependent parents and physically- challenged siblings who do not have a source of income. Sarma said the state Cabinet had already approved the rules of PRANAM Act.
“An employee, found not taking care of his parents, will face around 10 per cent deduction from his salary. The amount will be transferred to the bank account of parents. If there are other physically-challenged siblings, it can go up to 15 per cent. The government may consider extending the same to state government public sector units and corporations. An appellate authority will look into claims and grievances under the Act,” Sarma said.
