All Asom Goriya Yuva Chatra Parisad, an organisation working for the welfare of minorities in Assam, has written to the Chairperson of Assam Human Rights Commission to draw its attention to the shocking incident. It has complained against the illegal detention and mental and physical torture of the three women in the Burha Police Outpost.
The organisation has demanded appropriate measures to be taken against Mahendra Sarma and Binita Boro.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also ordered an inquiry into the alleged assault and torture of the three women.
On September 8, the women namely, Minuara Begum, Sanu Ara Begum and Rumena Begum, were picked up from their residence at Six Mile in Guwahati to Burha Police Outpost in Assam’s Darrang district.
Outpost In-charge Mahendra Sarma, allegedly, was in search of their brother Rubul Ali, against whom a kidnapping charge was lodged. He was accused in kidnapping a 19-year-old girl and her brother filed a complaint in the Sipajhar Police Station. The case was registered under Section 366 of the Indian Penal Code.
Failing to trace Ali, Sarma brought his sisters to the Burha Police Outpost and allegedly stripped and brutally assaulted them. Locals said that Mahendra Sarma, along with a lady constable, Binita Boro, tortured them for the whole night.
Images of their injuries surfaced online and the ladies, along with the locals, took to social media to share the barbarism of the Police personnel.
As per reports, the pregnant woman was carrying for two months and 22 days but the pregnancy had to be terminated after she sustained injuries in the Burha Police Outpost.
The three women have, reportedly, also tried to file a case against Mahendra Sarma but the latter threatened to kill them if they attempted to do so.
