Assam: Prime Minister announces ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to each of flood victims’ families

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 3^rd, 2020, announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for next of kin of persons who lost their lives due to the ravaging flood in Assam. The ex-gratia will be given from Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).

A total of 13,26,815 people and 67,628.06 hectares of crop land across 1636 villages in 20 districts have been affected by the catastrophic deluge in the state so far, according to the daily report released by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on July 3^rd, 2020.

Several rivers including the mighty Brahmaputra in different parts of Assam are flowing above danger level, causing floods and consequently leaving thousands of families homeless.

The Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger level at Neematighat in Jorhat and Dhubri. Jia Dharali at NT Road Crossing and Kopili at Nagaon and Beki at Barpeta.

As per the latest data, the flood has affected 1636 villages in 20 districts in the state – Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Udalguri, Darrang, Baksa, Nalbari, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Nagaon, Golaghat, Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Kamrup Tinsukia among other districts. There are 49 revenue circles that have been affected.

A total of 13,26,815 people and 67,628 hectares of crop area have been affected in the second wave of the flood so far. Meanwhile, 156 relief camps have been installed in three districts. In the relief camps, there are so far 11,741 people.

There are 6,899,913 big animals, 3,19,942 small and 9,10,146 poultry also affected.

One more died in Athani and one in Matia. Earlier, six new deaths, with 1 in Chapar, 1 in Kaliabor, 3 in Baghbar and Sathebari and 1 in Tihu. 2 new deaths in Sarupeta and 1 in Dibrugarh. 4 deaths were reported on June 29^th, 2020. Two more died in Udalguri and Jonai, Assam. Two deaths in Goalpara circle taking the death toll to 35. The total number of deaths from landslides is 24.
