The pro-talks faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) has demanded the immediate and unconditional release of its leader, Jiten Dutta, who was arrested on arson charges amid protests over the amendment of the Citizenship Act in Tinsukia district of Assam.
Addressing the press at Kakopathar in Tinsukia district of Assam, the leaders of the pro-talks faction of the ULFA, said that Jiten Dutta was suddenly arrested from his residence. "We were unaware why he was taken in, which has resulted in an atmosphere of turmoil in the camp, and has led to fear among the cadres", said ULFA leader, Antu Sawdang.

Informing that the camp, that was set up after ceasefire between ULFA and the Government, was mainly run under the supervision of Dutta, the pro-talks faction leader has said that they do not want trouble as they have not broken the law.
"However, when the Assamese jati is in trouble, if one of us decides to speak out against it. that person has the right. That is why he (Dutta) was nabbed. He had not called for a rebellion. He did not say that he would reiterate demand for a separate demand. He had urged for democratic protests", Sawdang said.
The ULFA pro-talks faction also forewarned that such acts could lead to heightened tensions between the ULFA and the Government, and appealed the Government not to arrest the pro-talks ULFA youths.
The pro-talks ULFA further condemned the 'CAA' and said that the Bill-turned-Act poses a great threat to the State of Assam.
It may be mentioned that several of the leaders of the anti-CAA brigade such as Akhil Gogoi and Dhairjya Konwar of the KMSS, Shringkhal Chaliha of the 'Veer Lachit Sena', and Jiten Dutta were arrested by authorities amid the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act.
