GUWAHATI: Prof. Jogendra Nath Phukan, the founder president of P.K Buragohain Institute of Tai & Southeast Asian Studies at Guwahati, on Monday was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri Award by President of Indian Ram Nath Kovind.
Prof. Phukan is also deeply involved in the study of history and culture of Assam.
Apart from Prof. Jogendra Nath Phukan, four other individuals from Assam were conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri Award on Monday.

2. Lil Bahadur Chettri for Literature and Education
3. Dr. Ravi Kannan R. for Medicine
4. Dr. Kushal Konwar Sarma for Medicine
A total of 14 people involved in various sectors of Assam were conferred in 2020 and 2021.
Sri Imran Shah, Sri Dulal Manki, Sri Raman Sharma, Mrs. Virubala Rabha, Sri Mangal Singh Hajwari, Sri Gopiram Borgayan, Mrs. Vijaya Chakravati and Mrs. Lakhimi Baruai have received the prestigious Padma Shri for the year 2021.
The ceremony to honour Padma awardees took place at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
