The Guwahati police on Friday detained scores of differently-abled protestors after they allegedly attempted to storm the state Secretariat in the city. They were staging a protest against the state government’s failure to fulfil their demands.
The protestors marched near the Secretariat by overpowering a large deployment of police personnel and breaking barricades. As the situation was slipping out of their hand, the police resorted to baton charge to restore normalcy. Scores of them were detained and taken to Sonapur on the city outskirts.
The demands of the protestors included a separate college, a university and quota in government jobs for the differently-abled.
