Guwahati, December 12, 2019:

Protesters in Goreswar in Baksa district of Assam, outraged after the passage of the Citizenship Amendment Bill, attacked Rajya Sabha MP and Bodoland People's Front (BPF) leader Biswajit Daimary’s residence in Suklai.

Hundreds of protesters have gathered around Biswajit Daimary’s house and are pelting stones at his house, reports said.

Speaking with Inside Northeast, Daimary said, “I am here in Delhi, and people have gathered in my home town whice I visit occasionally. I have also come to know that they have also burnt tyres in front of my house.”

It is to be mentioned here that the people of Assam have have started agitating on the streets after the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha with 125 vote.

People of Assam have also directed their rage at the Boroland People’s Front (BPF) and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), who are the alliance parties of the BJP in the State of Assam. BPF leader Daimary and AGP MP Birendra Prasad Baishya have also earned the wrath of the people for voting in favour of the Bill yesterday in the Rajya Sabha.

The law and order situation in Assam is now turning violent, as curfew has been imposed in Guwahati, the epicentre of the protests. However, the people are protesting despite the curfew. As many as 3 people have been shot dead by armed forces in Guwahati while, many have been injured, reports said.
