Assam has geared up to face the final and the most challenging level in the fight against the novel coronavirus, which has infected 62 people and claimed two lives so far in the state, as thousands will enter the state by train from tomorrow onwards.

“Schools and colleges have been converted to quarantine centers for the people to come to the state from different parts of the country. They have to go for a 14-day mandatory quarantine period,” said the Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Monday in a press conference.

He further said that the government is thinking for a third layer arrangement for quarantine at constituency level. “As soon as the quarantine facility is full in the district head-quarters, quarantine facility will be arranged at constituency level,” Sarma said.

He further said that swab tests will be conducted only for those who develop symptoms during the quarantine period as it is impossible to test all the people.

The minister informed that a total of 842 people will get off the train in Dibrugarh which will reach tomorrow from Delhi. “Of 842, most of the people are from Dhemaji district and Arunachal Pradesh,” he added. Moreover, he said

A total of 3255 people have entered the state through Srirampur gate while 342 through Sagolia gate to date, the minister informed. “1971 persons have been quarantined at Sarusajai quarantine centre while 1000 in Kokrajhar, 222 in Tezpur, 209 in Jorhat and 185 in Cachar district,” he added.
