Assam receives 1.5 lakh more doses of Covishield vaccine; registration for the third phase of COVID-19 vaccination begins

GUWAHATI: Assam today received 1.5 lakh more doses of Covishield vaccine from the central government, giving a boost to the vaccination drive in the state.

With this, the total availability of the vaccine in the state rose to 77,0030 doses.

Confirming this, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted: “In what shall give further boost to our #VaccinationDrive, pleased to share that Assam has received 1.5 lakh more doses of #CovishieldVaccine from Govt of India today. This takes our total availability of doses to 770030.”

Meanwhile, registration for the third phase of Covid-19 vaccination for the 18-44 age group, began yesterday.

Assam has so far inoculated 22,38,254 people. Of them, 3,22,149 are health workers, 5,49,371 frontline workers and 13,66,743 above 45 years of age.

The state’s COVID-19 death toll rose to 1,255 as the state witnessed 22 new COVID-19 deaths over the past 24 hours.

On the other hand, 3,045 fresh COVID-19 positive cases took the tally to 2,46,847, taking the active caseload in the state to 21,848.

A total of 1,098 patients recovered from the disease during the period, taking the total number of recoveries to 2,22,397, with an recovery rate of 90.10 per cent.

Of the new fatalities, six were reported from Kamrup Metro, three each from Barpeta and Kamrup, two each from Jorhat and Sonitpur and one each from Cachar, Charaideo, Karbi Anglong, Karimganj, Lakhimpur and Tinsukia districts.

Kamrup (M) district recorded 1,206 new COVID-19 positive cases, while Dibrugarh reported 229, Kamrup 225 and Nagaon district 125 cases.
