GUWAHATI: Assam’s COVID-19 death toll rose to 1,676 as the state witnessed 48 new COVID-19 deaths over the past 24 hours.

On the other hand, 3,299 fresh COVID-19 positive cases pushed the tally to 2.92 lakh, while the active caseload in the state rose to 36,005.

A total of 4,045 patients recovered from the disease during the period, taking the total number of recoveries to 2.53 lakh, with a recovery rate of 86.65 per cent.

Of the new fatalities, 17 were reported from Kamrup (M), four Kamrup, three each from Dibrugarh, Karbi Anglong, Sonitpur and Tinsukia, two each from Bongaigaon, Cachar, Jorhat and Lakhimpur, and one each from Barpeta, Dhemaji, Goalpara, Hojai, Nalbari, Sivasagar and Udalguri districts respectively.

The death rate in the state currently stands at 0.57 per cent.

On the other hand, Kamrup (M) recorded 1,346 new COVID-19 positive cases, while Dibrugarh reported 228, Tinsukia 148 and Kamrup district 137 cases.

As many as 36,135 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours with the positivity rate being 9.13 per cent.

The state has so far tested a total of 90.76 lakh samples for COVID-19.

On the other hand, Assam has so far inoculated a total of 30.25 lakh people.

Of them, 23.65 lakh have received the first dose while 6.60 lakh have received the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
