Assam records 3,453 new COVID-19 cases, 23 deaths in past 24 hours

GUWAHATI: Assam’s COVID-19 death toll rose to 1,330 as the state witnessed 23 new COVID-19 deaths over the past 24 hours.

On the other hand, 3,453 fresh COVID-19 positive cases pushed the tally to 2,56,576, while the active caseload in the state rose to 25,027.

A total of 2,229 patients recovered from the disease during the period, taking the total number of recoveries to 2,28,872, with an recovery rate of 89.20 per cent.

Of the new fatalities, nine were reported from Kamrup (M), one from Barpeta, two each from Cachar and Tinsukia and one each from Bongaigaon, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Sivasagar and Sonitpur districts.

Kamrup (M) district recorded 1,417 new COVID-19 positive cases, while Dibrugarh reported 264, Tinsukia 136 and Kamrup district 134 cases.

As many as 54,002 tests were conducted yesterday with the positivity rate being 6.39 per cent.

The state has so far tested a total of 86,58,937 samples for COVID-19.

On the other hand, Assam has so far inoculated a total of 25,66,157 people. Of them, 20,14,047 have received the first dose while 5,52,110 have received the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Meanwhile, the state government has exempted recognised political party leaders and accredited journalists, from undergoing compulsory home quarantine for seven days, who will arrive in the state from other parts of the country in connection with the Assembly election.
