GUWAHATI: Assam recorded 55 more deaths due to COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, taking the death toll in the state to 1,485, while 4,826 fresh positive cases took the tally to 2,72,751.
Of the 55 new deaths, 18 were reported from Kamrup (M), followed by Barpeta six, Goalpara, Nagaon and Sonitpur three each, Bongaigaon, Cachar, Dhemaji, Kamrup, Kokrajhar and Sivasagar districts two each, and Charaideo, Darrang, Dibrugarh, Hojai, Jorhat, Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Nalbari and Tinsukia districts one each respectively.
The current death rate is 0.54 per cent.
On the other hand, 1,347 more COVID-19 patients have died for other reasons so far in the state.
Assam currently has 29,915 active COVID-19 cases.
During the day, 2,916 people recovered from the disease taking the total number of recoveries to 2,40,004.
The recovery rate in the state currently stands at 87.99 per cent.
The 4,826 new positive cases included 1,383 from Kamrup (M), 380 from Dibrugarh, 370 from Kamrup and 209 from Barpeta districts.
The positivity rate now stands at 9.27 per cent.

Altogether 52,074 samples were tested for COVID-19 yesterday, taking the total number of such tests to 88,45,771.
On the other hand, a total of 27,84,428 people have received the COVID-19 vaccine so far in the state.
Meanwhile, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the Ulubari crematorium late last night, to ensure that the victims of COVID-19 gets space for their last rites.
Sarma also met the family members of the victims during his visit.
