A new positive COVID-19 case has been confirmed at the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital, Barpeta, Assam, today. The patient is at Kokrajhar quarantine Centre.

With this case, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has gone up to 189. Of the 189 confirmed cases, 134 are active cases while 48 have been cured or discharged and four have died of the infection in the state so far. Three COVID-19 patients have been migrated.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted:

On the midnight of May 20, three persons were tested positive for COVID-19 in the state. The tests were confirmed at the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital, in Assam, where the tests were done.

All the four were quarantined at the Kokrajhar quarantine centre in Assam. They have been identified as Tilok Lama (20), Nazrul Islam (18), Saidul Ali (24) and Saddam Hussain (21).

Meanwhile, all the 14 patients, who were tested positive for the novel coronavirus, were admitted to the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH) on the midnight of May 20. The health minister and Pijush Hazarika, Minister of state, health and Family Welfare minutely monitored the smooth shifting of the patients from the Sarusajai quarantine centre to the MMCH in Assam. Sarma further appealed to the family members of the patients to cooperate with the government.

Assam has the highest number of positives followed by Tripura. Sikkim so far has 0 home cases.

The COVID-19 has infected a total of 1,12,359 people and claimed 3435 lives so far across the country, according to the Ministry of Health Welfare. Of the 1,12,359 cases, 45,300 patients have been cured or discharged so far.

Maharashtra is the first state to cross a thousand deaths. It has recorded 39,297 corona cases with 10,318 cured and 1390 deaths. The western state is followed by Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. Gujarat has corona 12,537cases with 5,219 cured and 749 deaths. Tamil Nadu has crossed 13,191 cases with 5,882 cured and 87 deaths. The National Capital with 11,088 COVID-19 cases has crossed the 10 thousand mark on May 21. So, far 5,192 have been cured in Delhi with 176 deaths while Assam has registered 189 positive cases.
