Dispur, April 19, 2020:

As many as 17 of the COVID-19 patients have been released from Assam Hospitals. Now, "only" 16 patients are still undergoing treatment.

Today, 4 patients are being released from the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital. Manish Tibriwal, the businessman from Guwahati who is the city's lone case of the virus, shall also be discharged.

Yesterday, three patients were discharged from the hospital. One day earlier, four patients were released from the Golaghat Civil Hospital in the COVID-19 “red zone” district.

Note: Apart from Golaghat, the other red-zone districts are Nalbari, Dhubri, Goalpara, and Morigaon.

Earlier, 2 from Sonapur District Hospital and 3 from Goalpara Civil Hospital were released as they had tested COVID19 negative. The state has so far reported a single death due to complications from the virus.

It may be mentioned here that the two latest positive cases are both from Morigaon district, and the Government has said that they are the secondary contacts of the Tablighi Jamaat attendees.

It is pertinent to mention here that Northeast India has also reported many cases of the virus. The tally is as follows:

Assam: 34

Meghalaya: 10

Mizoram: 1

Manipur: 2

Nagaland: 1

Tripura: 2

Arunachal Pradesh: 1

Yesterday, Assam Finance and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that 4 people from the State of Uttar Pradesh, who had attented the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in national capital New Delhi, are now undergoing treatment in Assam. Of the cases that have been reported in Assam so far, the ages range from 18 to 71. Most of the cases have been reported in the age-range from 50-59.

GENDER WISE BREAK UP OF THE COVID-19 CASES IN ASSAM: 79% MALES; 21% FEMALES.

Himanta Biswa Sarma also said that out of 34 cases, 32 cases are related to the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in Assam.

Out of the cases, 82% of the cases are “silent carriers”, Sarma further said. 20% had fever, 11% had cough, and 7% had sore throat condition, the biggest signifier of the COVID-19 sickness. Among the cases, only one, the first case detected in the Karimganj district, has a co-morbid condition, that is, cancer.

With the inclusion of a latest lab in Tezpur, the number of labs has risen to 6.
