Assam Reports 1 more Case of COVID-19, Tally Rises to 31

Guwahati, April 13, 2020:

Assam has reported yet another case of the new coronavirus or COVID-19 moments after Meghalaya reported it's first case of the virus. The latest case is a resident of Goalpara district, and is reportedly a secondary contact of a Nizamuddin Markaz attendee.

Confirming this on Twitter, Assam Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, "

Alert ~ A person from Goalpara, and secondary contact of people associated with #NizamuddinMarkaz, has been confirmed as #COVID19 positive. The total number of #Covid patients in #Assam now stands at 31."

Moments earlier, Meghalaya has reported its first positive case of the novel coronavirus or COVID-19. The first positive case is a 69-year-old doctor from the Bethany Hospital in Shillong, Inside Northeast sources have confirmed. The Shillong Agglomeration will now be under complete curfew for two days starting from 6 am on April 14.

It may be recalled here that a man from Dhubri earlier today tested positive for the new coronavirus, Assam Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has confirmed. With this, the number of COVID-19 positive cases in the State rose to 30.

The Minister has said that this person too is linked to the Nizamuddin Markaz congregation that was held in New Delhi in March 2020.

Taking to twitter earlier in the morning today, Sarma wrote, “Another person from Dhubri, connected with Tablighi Jamaat meet at Nizamuddin Markaz, has been found COVID-19 positive. The total number of Covid patients in Assam now stands at 30.”

Meanwhile, across the state, 3,209 samples have been collected, 3,070 cases have tested negative, while 31 cases have returned a ‘positive’ result. The results of 109 samples are being awaited, Sarma further added.

From Nizamuddin, 1,421 samples have been tested for the coronavirus so far, and there are 29 positive cases. Now, results of 34 samples by the awaited by the Government.

The Northeast tally is as follows:

Assam has 31 cases.

Arunachal Pradesh has 1 cases.

Mizoram has 2 cases.

Manipur has 2 cases.

Tripura has 2 cases.

Meghalaya has 1 case.

Sikkim is the only Northeast Indian state which is yet to report a case.
