A Special Rhino Protection Force would be raised in Assam to curb the growing menace of Rhino poaching. A specially trained force consisting 90 personnel has been recruited to bring down the number of incidents of rhino poaching in Kaziranga National Park and other Rhino habitats in the state. The newly recruited force will help protect the existing 2413 rhinos in Kaziranga National Park. The new force will be equipped with both conventional and sophisticated.
It may be mentioned that in recent times the state has witnessed cases of rampant Rhino poaching in the state with an estimation of 22 rhinos killed by poachers in past three years.
Speaking to INSIDENE, L R Bishnoi, Additional Director General of Police (Administration), Assam said that the newly recruited force will undergo a special training for a period of one year. The force will be trained by the Forest Department. He added that no resolution on the enforcement of the working of the force has been taken for now.
