She was reportedly pestering the contractor assigned for the work to give her the aforesaid amount as bribe. The contractor, however, approached the anti-corruption bureau which laid a trap for the official. She was apprehended while taking Rs. 15,000 as an "advance."
A 14-member team of the anti-corruption bureau from Guwahati that had reached Nalbari to crackdown the case promptly arrested the erring official and brought her back to Guwahati and have subjected her to interrogation. Further investigations are reportedly underway.
Despite Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal's assurances of a "zero corruption Assam", there have been numerous reports of corrupt activities in the Government offices in the recent times, with this latest episode in Nalbari serving as a reminder that freedom from corruption remains a distant dream.
