ASSAM: SCHOOL UNIFORM SCAM CONTINUES IN HAILAKANDI

The School Uniform Scam continues in Hailakandi district as in view of failure of Block Elementary Education Officers (BEEOs) of Katlcherra, Hailakandi and Lala to prevent gross misuse of funds leading to procurement of poor quality school uniforms, District Mission Coordinator, Sarba Siksha Abhiyan, Hailakandi, FR Laskar has served show cause notice on them.

Earlier also F.R Laskar has rejected the dress materials for uniform procured by Headmistress Rangauti Girls’ High School while doing an inspection on April 27th, in which he rejected the dress materials.

In a letter issued on Wednesday, District Mission Coordinator, SSA, Laskar said the BEEOs failed to regulate the process of poor quality school uniforms despite strict directive to them.

"Even after my strict instruction on April 3, no action was taken from your end till today, which naturally proves your failure in regulating the process of procurement of good quality school uniforms," the letter said.

Laskar further said that some block accountants even directly compelled the teachers to issue cheques in the name of their chosen firms with the BEEOs remaining as silent spectators.

The BEEOs have been asked to reply to the show cause notice within three days or else disciplinary proceedings would be drawn against them.

It may be mentioned that several organizations and public representatives, including Hailakandi MLA Anowar Hussain Laskar have alleged large-scale misappropriation of funds in the name of.procurement of school uniforms.
