No schools in Assam can teach in English till class 5 including the English medium, State Health and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. "Education will be given only in Assamese and other local languages", he stated during a speech he delivered during Independence Day.
He further concluded that "In Assam, Rabha, Karbi, Dimasa and such languages have been disappeared from the curriculum. We will follow the new NEP from December, January. From now on till only local languages till class 5 and even English mediums will have to teach in Tiwa, Missing and other local languages till class 5".

Along with that Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that, "Whatever school and medium, Assamese have to be taught compulsorily till class 10". The following rule was already made for the Brahmaputra Valley minus the BTR region. The hill districts and Barak Valley has been exempted from the rule.
