Assam: Section 144 CrPC enforced in eight districts

Fearing trouble post-publication of the complete draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC), the authorities on Sunday enforced prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC in eight districts for an indefinite period.

According to official sources, the orders have been enforced in Barpeta, Darrang, Dima Hasao, Sonitpur, Karimganj, Golaghat, Dhubri and Bongaigaon districts. The police have been put on a high alert across the state to thwart any untoward incident.

Guwahati also falls under the sensitive zone. Guwahati Police Commissioner Hiren Nath said there are 22 sensitive areas in and around the city.
