Assam: Several orgs demand action against illegal mining at Panimur, write to NCHAC chief

Several organsations wrote to the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC), Assam chief executive member Debolal Gorlosa demanding stern action against the illegal mining at Panimur, one of the important tourist spot located at Dima Hasao.

The organisations also urged the CEM to look into installation of stone crasher machine near New Haflong.

The alleged illegal mining at the site has dawn huge controversy of late in the state. “Around 600 meters away from the spot, there was a large area that has been excavated to supply stones.  However, after some section of media reported about the mining, the place was left empty,” the organisations stated.

The incident raised several questions on the part of the state forest department and also the council whether they are aware or not. “Why are they maintaining stoic silence if they have information about the mining?”

Panimur is a famous tourist spot situated in Assam’s Dima Hasao district, charmed with natural beauty. It is around 140 km away from district headquarter Haflong. In addition to this, the area is also a sacred site for the Dimasas and a footprint of Dimasa legendary princess ‘Disru’ can be seen imprint on a stone.
