Assam: Suspected abduction scare in Boko turns out to be financial dispute, 6 detained

A suspected kidnapping scare at Bamunigaon in Assam’s Boko area turned into a police investigation into an alleged financial dispute linked to the drug trade after a vehicle travelling towards Goalpara rammed into a roadside divider.

According to local sources, two vehicles were travelling towards Goalpara at high speed when one of them hit a roadside divider at Bamunigaon. The incident prompted suspicion among local residents that a young woman inside the vehicle might have been abducted.

Residents apprehended the men accompanying the woman and handed them over to Boko police for questioning.

However, preliminary police findings indicated that the incident did not appear to be a kidnapping case. Investigators suspect that a dispute over financial transactions allegedly linked to the drug trade may have triggered the confrontation.

According to information available, the woman, identified as Sara, allegedly created a commotion inside the vehicle, triggering panic among those present. She and two Manipuri youths accompanying her were reportedly arrested earlier in connection with alleged drug-related activities.

The three Manipuri individuals detained in connection with the latest incident have been identified as Thangkha Hao, Chatmin Khang and Sara. The other three individuals are Faridul Islam, Amidul and Abbas Ali.

Faridul Islam is a resident of Lakhipur in Goalpara district, while Amidul hails from Baruajhar in Darrang district. Abbas Ali reportedly belongs to Ulubari in Darrang district.

Police have initiated questioning of all six individuals to establish the sequence of events and determine the circumstances that led to the confrontation. Investigators are examining the possibility that a dispute over the settlement of money allegedly connected to the drug trade triggered the incident.
