Assam: Suspected Bomb Discovered in Chaygaon Area, Tension among Locals

Guwahati, February 5, 2020:

Tension prevails in Chaygaon area under Assam's Kamrup district after the recovery of a suspected bomb early in the morning on Wednesday.

“There is tension in the locality, and a bomb squad has been informed. As per information, received, they are on their way to take stock of the situation”, a local told Inside Northeast.

Police have also recovered a motorcycle from the residence of a family, who were reportedly attacked by miscreants.

Rupam Hazarika, the OC of Chaygaon, told Inside Northeast, "We cannot say for certain that it is a bomb...our sources have informed that four items have been seen which resemble locally made yoyos. Locals here said that the items were dropped from the two-wheeler of a man who had gone to the locality to fetch his wife and child from in-laws. The couple is reportedly having matrimonial dispute and they had a spat earlier today as well, according to locals. A bomb squad will determine the true nature of the items. For now, it is shrouded in mystery."

According to reports, the Police took the suspected explosives to the Barhanti reserve in the Kukurmara region. It may be mentioned that some miscreants had attacked the residents of a family and they had fled the scene, leaving behind a pulsar bike along with the bombs in a bag.
