Guwahati, December 31, 2019:

In good news to the people of the state amid Citizenship Amendment Act protests, Assam is all set to showcase its tableau at the for 71st Republic Day Parade in New Delhi on January 26, next year.

According to reports, the Ministry of Defence has approved it.

On the 71st Republic Day, the tableau will present the hard work and dedication of the local bamboo craftsman, tribal weavers, ‘Bhoor- Taal” dance form (a cultural dance form of Assam) and ‘Kaah- Pitol” industry of the state, at the national level.

It may be mentioned here that the selection of tableaus for the Republic Day tableau parade is a long process involving various stages of elimination.

During the selection, an expert committee is formed for selecting the tableaus of the participating states. Post the selection of tableaus by the expert committee, the Union Ministry of Defence may suggest modifications, if necessary.

Earlier, the official theme for the Assam tableau for Republic Day Parade in New Delhi on January 26, 2019, was ‘Manchester of the East’ – Sualkuchi.
