Debabrata Saikia, the Leader of Opposition in Assam Assembly and senior Congress leader has lashed out against State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma after the latter's indicative comments that "Tarun Gogoi should retire".
Debabrata Saikia said, "Now he talks about Hindu religion and Bharat tradition. But he has entered politics through Hitesthwar Saikia. Later, in 2001 after his the win, he was given the Ministerial charge by Tarun Gogoi".

Saikia further stated, "Tarun Gogoi Sir loved him more than his son still he's making attacks against him. He has a policy that compels people to take care of his parents then why is he insulting the senior leaders like Tarun".
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Ripun Borah said, "Himanta Biswa Sarma has insulted his political father Tarun Gogoi".
