Assam: Tea garden manager escapes bid on life
tea24 July 2018:
Tension gripped a tea estate in Upper Assam’s Jorhat district on Tuesday after the miscreants from Nagaland had allegedly made an abortive bid on the life of the garden’s assistant manager.
According to reports, the miscreants opened fire targeting Pradip Phukan who is serving as assistant manager at the Seleng Tea Estate in Selenghat. He escaped unhurt.
Following the incident, the tea estate workers blocked a road leading up to Nagaland and prevented the movement of vehicles with Nagaland registration.
The police said the situation was tense but under control.
“We were told the firing took place when the manager was in the garden. We visited the site but could not recover any empty shells of bullets. A BOP (border outpost) of Assam Police is there at the site. We could not talk to Phukan. There is no trace of him after the incident,” the police told InsideNe.
