Dibrugarh, December 23, 2019:

The Asom Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) and All Assam Tea Tribe Student Association (ATTSA) jointly staged a massive protest against the contentious amendment of the Citizenship Act at Chaulkhuwa in Dibrugarh district of Assam.

According to reports, former Congress MP, Paban Singh Ghatowar, is leading the charge against the CAA at the protest.

The massive protest rally has been organized by the tea tribes bodies, and members of the organizations are demanding the Sarbananda Sonowal-led BJP Government to scrap the CAA, even as Dibrugarh police has arrested 55 persons for indulging in acts of vandalism in Dibrugarh district during the recent anti-CAA protests. All of them have been forwarded to jail for judicial custody.

As per Police, the persons were arrested from various parts of the district on the basis of incriminating video evidence collected from CCTV cameras and mobile video clips. They have been found involved in indulging violence, vandalism, posting objectionable messages in social media and destruction of public properties.

The biggest of these rallies are being held at the Latasil playground in Guwahati, where many non-violent and democratic protests against the CAA are being held.
