27 July 2018:

Tea estate workers staged protests at Khumtai in Golaghat district and Mariani in Jorhat district on Friday demanding hike in their wages.

In Khumtai, the workers gheraoed the tea production plant of Khumtai Goronga Tea Estate to register their protest. Assam Cha Mazdoor Sangha and All Assam Tea Students’ Association (AATSA) led the protest.

The workers said if the wages were hiked, they would have got respite from the shooting prices of essential commodities. They demanded an immediate hike in wages and warned that if the authorities failed to address the issue, they would be compelled to launch a series of protests in the coming days.

In Mariani, the workers blocked the historic Dhodar Ali on the same demand. Several vehicles were stranded during the blockade.
