Amid the alarming situation caused by the novel coronavirus, tension gripped across Assam’s Sivasagar district after arrival of at least 20 people from Tripura on Sunday night.
As per information, the passengers had travelled by bus from Tripura via Jorhat, where two positive cases were reported, to the district without going through any health check-up.
The health department officials rushed to the spot after being informed by police about the arrival of the people. “The passengers entered the district without any health check-up,” a health official said.

He further informed that the passengers were sent back to Jorhat for screening for COVID-19 after the preliminary investigation.
Proper screening of the people, whoever enters the state, and 14-day home quarantine, if tested negative for COVID-19, is mandatory.
A total of 62 positive cases have been reported in the state so far; of which 34 have been cured/ discharged.
